Geometry:
Today we talked about arcs, chords and central angles, as well as sectors and segments in a circle and arc length.  We covered certain problems relating to these topics, as well as proofs.

Homework:
(Pg. 760) #11-16, 27-30
(Pg. 767) #1-11

Geometry:
Today we took our Chapter 10 Test.  Tomorrow we will have 25-30 mins to finish the test.

Homework:
Finish both proofs (the ones we didn't complete on Monday) for homework tomorrow.
Monday, April 25, 2016
Geometry:
Today in class we discussed different points, lines and line segments inside a circle.  We then went over a proof that helped us see that if we have a tangent line and a circle, that tangent will be perpendicular to the radius.

Homework:
Finish the other two proofs for homework.

Geometry:
Today we reviewed for Tuesday's Ch. 10 test.  Those who had quiz corrections needed to turn them into me by the end of the day today.

Homework:
Review guide.  Come prepared to ask me questions.  Here is a key for it!

Geometry:
Today we reviewed Sections 10.4-10.7.  Students were given answer keys for the homework last night and during the day they either worked on the review packet I gave them or created a formula sheet regarding the surface area, lateral area and volume for a prism, cylinder, cone and a pyramid.
Here is the key for the review packet.  If you have any questions, please email me at jpspeer@ilstu.edu.  Have a great weekend!

Also, with regards to the problems on Pg. 709 from the night before, the answers are:
For #7, 1440(pi) cubic inches.
For #12, 224(pi) cubic inches. (Hint: The smaller cone is taken out of the larger cone, thus having a hole there...)
For #14, 90 cubic meters.
For #16, Volume = 10,125 cubic feet OR Volume = 375 yards cubed. (Hint: If 1 yard = 3 feet, then 1 cubic yard = (3)^3 cubic feet, or 27 cubic feet.)

Homework:
Review packet.  Study for quiz on Monday covering Sections 10.4-10.7.

Geometry:
Today we went over homework problems involving surface and lateral area of a pyramid.  We then found the formula for lateral area of a cone, which is EXACTLY the same formula for the lateral area of a pyramid.  After this, we did a demonstration to show how the volume of a pyramid and a cone was: V = 1/3(Area of base)*(height).

Homework:
There is a worksheet showing different levels of problems that you'll see on test.  Level III are the most challenging.  Students are to choose three of them to complete for homework tomorrow.  Also, there are four problems from the book: (Pg. 709) #7, 12, 14, 16.

CORRECTIONS ON HOMEWORK WORKSHEET!!!
1. Please cross out the word "slant" in #5.  The height of this pyramid is 10 cm, not the slant height.
2. Please change the diameter of the cone in #6 to be 12 cm, not 10 cm.  Change this also in the diagram.

Retake policy:
If you wish to retake the test, you are to come talk with me and we can decide on a time for you to take it on Monday.  Those wishing to retake the test must come talk to me by the end of the day on Friday.

Geometry:
Today we learned about the volume of a cylinder and a prism, and how the formula for both would be: Volume = (area of base) * (height of figure).  We then went over practice problems with volume.  After that, we talked about lateral area of a pyramid and found that the general formula would be: Lateral Area = 1/2*(Perimeter of base)*(slant height).

Homework:
Complete the four-problem worksheet given at the end of class.  (There is an assignment there that will be assigned tomorrow for you to complete, so if you can do those tonight.  Regardless, they will be due Friday.)

Retake policy:
Those who received a C OVERALL on their test need to come talk with me about their grade either today, tomorrow or Friday.  Those who want to retake the exam need to also come speak to me during those days and state a time that they would like to come in and take the exam.

Geometry: Today we went over homework problems that required us to find the surface area or lateral area of a given solid, whether it was a single solid or a composite figure.  Also, the problems required one to use the surface area to find other measurements of the solid.  After this, we started our discussion of volume but realized that the equation we've usually used: V = L*w*h only works for a rectangular prism, not for any other figure.

Homework:  Find a formula to represent the volume of a cylinder and other prisms.

Geometry: Today we learned about surface and lateral area of a prism and a cylinder.

Geometry:
Today in class we reviewed topics involving solids, cross sections, nets, and isometric and orthographic viewpoints.  We also talked about how to find the distance between two points in space, as well as its midpoint.

Homework:
Finish the packet given at the end of class.  Here is a key.
Study for quiz tomorrow.

Pre-Calculus:
Today we took our Ch. 11 Test.  There will be time in class tomorrow to finish each part of the test.
